TV rights: Italian football will be screened on UK television until 2018 reports said as BT Sport renewed its broadcasting deal with the Serie A clubs. As from next season, BT Sport will show up to 380 live Serie A games per season until the end of the 2017-18 campaign. “Serie A is a fantastic, competitive league featuring some of the legendary teams of European folklore, such as Juventus, Milan, Inter and Roma,” Simon Green, head of BT Sport, was quoted as saying yesterday.

Brighton: Brighton have been hit with a £90,000 fine by the FA and warned over their future conduct for admitting breaches of the governing body’s agent regulations. The charges relate to the Seagulls’ acquisition of midfielder Dale Stephens from Charlton at the end of January 2014. Three authorised agents have also been sanctioned and warned to their future conduct for their roles in the same case.

Closed doors: Egyptian soccer, postponed indefinitely after at least 19 people were killed following clashes between fans and police outside a stadium in Cairo earlier this month, could resume with games played behind closed doors. The Egyptian government has taken the first steps by forming a committee to look at re-starting the domestic championship. Most of the dead were suffocated when the crowd stampeded after police used tear gas to clear fans trying to force their way into a league match held on February 8 between Cairo clubs Zamalek and ENPPI.

Rangers: Rangers director James Easdale has resigned from the board ahead of a meeting that could have seen him voted off. The club announced to the stock exchange that Easdale had left both the plc and football club boards. A statement read: “James Easdale leaves Rangers having never received any remuneration, bonus or compromise payment during his time at the club. He would like to thank all the fans and shareholders who supported him and wishes the club a speedy return to the top flight and beyond.”
