Juventus have become the highest-ranked Italian team in the UEFA classification for clubs after joining the top 20 thanks to their victory over Borussia Dortmund.

With Milan not involved in Europe this season, Juve’s 2-1 win over Borussia earned them enough points to leapfrog the Rossoneri into 20th place.

Juventus are the only team in the top 20 with Inter now ranked 22nd and Napoli 24th.

Real Madrid are the top team on the continent with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Benfica rounding up the top five.

Juventus target United youngster

Andreas Pereira has revealed he is considering an offer to join Juventus this summer after turning down a new contract with Manchester United.

The 19-year-old Brazil midfielder looks set to leave United once his contract expires at the end of the season.

Pereira is a reported target of PSG although the Belgium-born player has not ruled out following the footsteps of former United prospect Paul Pogba, who left Old Trafford in the summer of 2012 to join the Turin club as a free agent.

“Everyone knows that Juve are a great club,” Pereira said.

“I have spoken with Pogba many times and he told me that I would be well served in moving to Turin.”

Celtic fined for crowd trouble

Celtic have been fined €10,000 by UEFA for crowd disturbance during their 4-3 loss at Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League in December.

The Scottish champions were reprimanded after flares were set off and fans clashed with police in the away end during their visit to Croatia on December 11.

UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body announced the fine as Celtic travel to Italy for the second leg of their last 32 tie against Inter today.

It is the fifth time in three years that Celtic have been charged due to the behaviour of their fans during matches in Europe.

Van Zweden could face Swans censure

Swansea could take internal action against club director John van Zweden over remarks he reportedly made against Man. United manager Louis van Gaal.

Van Zweden is alleged to have insulted Van Gaal following Swansea’s 2-1 victory over United on Saturday, calling his fellow Dutchman an “arrogant b******”.

The remark was reportedly said to a Dutch TV crew which followed Van Zweden to south Wales for Swansea’s famous win ahead of a documentary.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said: “If any of our directors behave in an inappropriate and unprofessional manner not befitting this football club, then they will be dealt with internally and appropriately.”

Neymar in apparent bust-up with fan

Barcelona forward Neymar appeared to confront a Manchester City fan at the full-time whistle of the Champions League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday.

Neymar was substituted in the 80th minute of the last-16 first-leg game, which Barca won 2-1, and footage posted on YouTube shows the 23-year-old apparently remonstrating with a section of City’s support from the visiting dugout.

Once the full-time whistle was blown, the Brazilian then walked to the pitch side and looked to be in a heated discussion with one City supporter in particular, with stewards intervening to defuse the situation.

Aston Villa report financial progress

Aston Villa have announced a £3.9 million loss after tax for the year ending May 31, 2014 – down from £51.8 million for the previous year.

The reduction was mainly due to a £33.2 million increase in turnover to £116.9 million and a £12.9 million reduction in operating expenses to £121.7 million.

The increase in turnover was largely down to the new Premier League broadcasting agreements but the club’s commercial and sponsorship revenues also grew.

Robin Russell, chief financial officer, said: “Compliance with Financial Fair Play continues to be a key component of our planning and we remain focused on growing the club in a responsible and sustainable way.”

Seven sought in racist chants probe

Photographs of seven men have been released by police investigating racist chanting at a mainline station following a Chelsea Champions League football match earlier this month.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the images were taken at St Pancras International station in London at around 8pm on February 18.

This was the day after an incident on the Paris Metro before Chelsea’s match with Paris St Germain when a black man was subjected to alleged racist abuse.

BTP Detective Sergeant Steven Graysmark said: “I want anyone who knows the men in the photographs to come forward.

“I believe the seven, thought to be Chelsea fans, can help us with the investigation.”
