Next Sunday’s 2015 League Cup final at Wembley Stadium will be contested by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

In the semi-finals, the Spurs eliminated cup battlers Sheffield United, of League One, 3-2 on aggregate (1-0 and 2-2) while the Blues relied on another Branislav Ivanovic goal to dump Liverpool out of contention with a 2-1 result over two legs (1-1 and 1-0).

This will be Tottenham’s eighth time in the League Cup final and Chelsea’s seventh showdown in the competition.

The all-time winners’ list sees Liverpool topping the chart with eight wins. Sunday’s victors at Wembley, Chelsea or Tottenham, will join Aston Villa in second place with five successes.

Facts and figures

• Tottenham’s biggest win en route to the final came against the only Premier League opposition they faced – a 4-0 win over Newcastle in round five.

• Chelsea did not come up against fellow top-flight opposition until their semi-final success over Liverpool – beating Bolton, Shrewsbury and Derby beforehand.

• This will be the 54th League Cup final – the first was won by Aston Villa after a two-legged success over Rotherham.

• 23 different teams have lifted the League Cup – Liverpool have the most wins with eight. Tottenham and Chelsea have both won the competition on four occasions.

• Tottenham’s first win came in 1971 and their last was in 2008 – with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea. Spurs captain Younes Kaboul is the only current Tottenham player to have participated in that final.

• Chelsea have not won the competition since Jose Mourinho led them to the trophy in 2007 – with their first success back in 1965.

• The last time the two London rivals met at Wembley was for the FA Cup semi-final of 2012, which Chelsea won 5-1 on their way to lifting the cup.

• The most goals scored in a one-legged League Cup final sits at five – with Swansea’s 5-0 win over Bradford in 2013 last achieved.
