The general manager of an old people’s home filed a judicial protest against the owners today, saying that she has not been paid her wages since October.

The protest was filed by Elke Sghendo against L’Agora Malta Ltd.

Ms Sghendo said she was engaged as general manager in Casa Francesco last August .

Since October, she and the other employees had not been paid, yet she continued to work out of a sense of duty to the residents. She also forked out her own money for essential items in the interests of the residents.

The owners, however, had not been investing money and resources into the operations and the government therefore had no option but to cancel a contract which it had with the home.

Ms Schengo said she was not responsible for what had happened and would act to safeguard her reputation. She also reserved the right to take action for constructive dismissal.
