Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil this evening received unanimous backing from his party for his stand over the Swissleaks revelations.

In a statement, the PN said, the administrative council unanimously confirmed Dr Busuttil’s decision last week to suspend any person on the Swissleaks list with an official connection with the party.

Since Dr Busuttil’s decision, former minister Michael Falzon, who was currently a member of the party’s executive, suspended himself from the party over an undeclared Swiss account.

Last Sunday, former minister Ninu Zammit was suspended by the PN when his name surfaced in a news report linking him to an undeclared Swiss account.

Both Mr Falzon and Mr Zammit admitted having the accounts but said they had regularised their tax position.

The two former ministers held the accounts when they were MPs and ministers.

Swissleaks is a list of HSBC clients who held secretive accounts at the bank’s private Geneva branch prior to 2008.
