Hibs continued with their good run of form inflicting the first defeat on women’s league leaders Caffe Moak Luxol, on Sunday.

Hibs had their leading points-getter Christine Grima in top form and new foreigner Jorvana Karakesevic, of Serbia, playing an outstanding match as the Paolites cruised to an 83-64 win.

Luxol felt the absence of pivot Joselle Borg Cardona but that alone was no excuse for the upset as Hibs were worthy winners.

The first half of the match was evenly balanced but Hibs, who led 41-37 at half-time, then stunned Luxol with a 19-point break which paved the way to their success.

The last time Luxol were in front was at the start of the third quarter when they led 44-41. Hibs suddenly upped their game and opened a 60-44 advantage.

Luxol were a spent force after that. Their attempt to get back into the match never yielded them dividends as Hibs stayed composed to preserve their healthy lead.

In another match, captain Sam Brincat led Depiro back to victory at the expense of an Athleta team that were going through a bright patch in the championship.

Athleta misfired badly in the fourth quarter as Depiro, who had started the last ten minutes only a basket in front, 45-43, produced an aggressive final 10-minute session that never allowed their opponents to settle down.

In the end, Depiro won it 73-58 to go one point behind Luxol in the standings.

Standings: Luxol 17 (8-1); Depiro 16 (6-4); Athleta 15 (5-5); Hibs 15 (5-5); Phoenix 9 (0-9).

Top scorers: A. Simmons (Athleta) 240, C. Grima (Hibs) 197, S. Evans (Depiro) 195, L. Alston (Luxol) 172, S. DeMartino (Luxol) 107.
