The current jumping up and down and running about concerning the oodles of cash appertaining to ex-PN Ministers Michael Falzon (who must be kicking himself for spilling his own beans) and Ninu Zammit must be pleasing the PM no end.

Many of his own supporters, the true-blue (red, more accurately, I suppose) hard-core Labourites who will take anything with a PN label as fair game for their scorn, will feel a warm glow of satisfaction at the fact that heinous PN corruption has come to light, even if there's no evidence at this time that this is the case.

According to both these (now revealed-to-be) plutocrats, they made their cash back in Mintoff's day, when many right thinking men thought it was quite a nifty idea to put the results of their labours beyond the avaricious one's clutches. To this extent, there is a bit of residual sympathy in my heart for them, though it was never a problem I had.

In fact, back in Mintoff's day, it was an interesting struggle to make enough money to pay off my modest house-loan, so months, and shovelling stuff Geneva-wards was not even on the cards. Just for the record, I don't have a Swiss account, even now - wish I had the problem of needing to avoid the taxman but sadly, in a sense, I don't. I sleep at night, though.

Getting back to the PM's convenience, as one should, not only are genuine Labourites having a jolly good smirk about the revelations, so are the "Labour for convenience" brigade, the ones for whom the PN in its latter days was anathema and for whom any excuse to slam the PN, even now, is grist to their bitter mill.

They forget, it seems, or perhaps choose to forget, that Ninu Zammit made his deal to get respectable with Joseph Muscat's Government. Before Muscat scuttled up the steps to Castille, Zammit chose to keep things close to his chest, not letting anyone, not even his own party and its leaders, know that his wallet was comfortably plump.

Which is possibly why Muscat's bunch are letting others get all hot under the collar for them, while abiding by the terms of the Government's agreement with Zammit.

Not paying the tax you should be paying is a horrible crime against humanity, we're all agreed on that, and clearly it is only PN ex-Ministers and PN hangers-on who do this.

Every single Labourite, new, old and pretend, every single newspaper editor-cum-owner and reporter, breathlessly reporting on the fiscal foibles of the high and mighty, is as pure as the driven snow and able to chuck rocks while abiding entirely modestly in the glasshouse of their own prejudices.
