Air Malta is planning to start a twice-weekly route to Oran, Algeria’s second largest city.

The service is expected to operate every Monday and Thursday from July 20 to August 31.

Malta’s national airline also plans to increase the number of flights to the capital Algiers from two to three during the summer.

Planes will leave every Monday, Thursday and Sunday in the peak months after Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting, which falls from June 18 to July 17 this year.

The extra Sunday flights will operate between July 19 and September 13.

“This is more good news for both Malta and Algeria,” said Joseph Galea, Air Malta’s deputy chief commercial officer.

“We started flying to Algiers in June 2013 and following the positive response received, we are now looking forward to start operations to Oran.

“The city is a major port and the commercial, industrial, and educational centre of western Algeria.”
