The Vodafone Malta Foundation has has thanked its chairwoman Ġemma Mifsud Bonnici for her tireless commitment since the foundation’s inception. Mifsud Bonnici will be stepping down from her role shortly.

The foundation is entering its second decade of service to the community. Over the past 10 years, it has proved to be a valued philanthropic organisation that has channelled almost €3 million towards a number of initiatives that have had a positive impact in a number of areas, particularly those related to social change, health, the environment, culture and heritage.

Vodafone Malta CEO Amanda Nelson said making a positive difference within the community lied at the very heart of what Vodafone was all about.

“This is promoted by Vodafone Group across the globe and Malta is no exception. Mrs Mifsud Bonnici has been instrumental in making this aim a reality through the foundation’s continuous activities and we thank her wholeheartedly for her contribution,” Nelson said.

Mifsud Bonnici is being replaced by Michel Macelli, who has extensive experience within the financial sphere and is currently the chief operating officer of a leading ICT firm.

British High Commissioner Robert Luke and Jason Pavia remain members of the board. They are joined by new members Caroline Farrugia and Veronica Nardelli.

In line with a policy being promoted at Vodafone Group level, the foundation will be taking a new direction in terms of projects and initiatives it supports.

This policy, referred to as ‘Mobiles 4 Good’, will see an emphasis on using the liberating power of mobile technology to mobilise and deliver social change.

The foundation will remain active in the social, medical, environment and heritage fields but will be identifying projects in these areas where the most innovative application of mobile networks can be utilised to bring about tangible improvements.
