Drama Outreach Project is holding its third annual fundraiser at Ir-Razzett l-Abjad, San Ġwann, on March 6. The team is determined to once more put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraiser’ with an event that includes finger food and drinks, a performance by the Live Earth Band and music to dance to courtesy of DJ Winston De Giorgio.
DO Project was formed two years ago with the aim of offering underprivileged children in developing countries the opportunity to learn English through music, dance, art and developmental drama with the Helen O’Grady Academy. The NGO’s first project was in Cambodia.
“Today the victims of Cambodia’s tragic past are the children who beg for handouts among rushing traffic or scavenging for recyclable bottles or cans at night to scratch a living,” said the NGO’s president Alan Montanaro.
“These are Cambodia’s street children, those DO Project works with. We firmly believe education is the key to lifting these children out of the squalour in the hope that they will become self-sufficient, productive individuals.”
To this end, a team of teachers and carers has travelled to Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh, and worked closely with a number of voluntary organisations. The team returns to Phnom Penh this August.
The aim of this year’s fundraiser is to continue to finance DO Project’s activities and to discuss other major projects with Cambodian partners.
