The nights might already be getting lighter, but Audi has celebrated the darkness with a series of amazing photographs of some of its popular models under the cover of nightfall. Each has been lit individually against a different background to create eerie, unreal images that show off the well-known shapes in a totally new light.

We can kick off with a beautiful, orange R8 (above), shot under twilight against a haunting-looking old building. The professional photographer has done a fantastic job. Now check out 12 more.

RS 7 Sportback (factory)
The RS 7 Sportback is a large, five-door bruiser with enough muscle to make a coal-fired power station redundant.

RS 6 Avant
If moving large objects at speed is your thing, there’s nothing finer than the RS 6 Avant, with its bi-turbo charged V8 engine.

S1
Small and feisty, the S1 is a terrier in sheep’s clothing. If you can picture a yellow sheep, anyway.

S3 saloon
The S3 saloon is a mighty all-rounder and isn’t a bad place to watch the stars from, either.

SQ 5 TDI
Turbo diesel power makes the SQ5 unique among performance Audis, but it pulls its (considerable) weight easily.

A3 Cabriolet
There haven’t been many convertible-appropriate days lately, but the A3 soft-top is always ready to go topless.

RS 4 Avant (rear)
A glorious naturally-aspirated V8 engine sits beneath the RS 4 Avant’s muscular bonnet, but what to put in its spacious estate boot is up to you.

A8 L
If the A8 L leaves you wanting more legroom, you should probably lay off the vitamins. A huge space awaits rear passengers of the long-wheelbase A8.

RS 7 Sportback (country lane)
The RS 7 Sportback makes its second appearance, this time spookily spotlit on a country road.

RS Q3
Something of a surprise package since its launch, the RS Q3 takes a light facelift into 2015.

RS 4 Avant (tunnel)
Red is the colour, going fast is the game for the RS 4. It also sounds fantastic in tunnels, for those cheeky enough to indulge themselves.

S3 saloon (side)
You’d be mad to say no to a festively-lit S3 saloon on your drive, and it even looks good in white.
