Allow me, through this newspaper, to commend the refuse collection service being offered in St Paul’s Bay and district.

Gone are the days of seeing filthy, noisy scrap-value refuse collection trucks on our roads and we now see much newer vehicles which are kept in pristine condition and are certainly cleaner than some goods delivery vehicles we see in the area.

One also appreciates that collection times are not always met but, again, one has to appreciate the massive area covered to provide this service.

I would also like to highlight the ever-growing number of irresponsible dog owners in the Qawra area who allow their pets to foul the full length of the promenade and the surrounding streets and pavements without clearing up the mess and in the full knowledge that no one is watching them.

We can spend millions of euros in attracting local and foreign visitors to our area but if we do not find a way to curtail this rampant and irresponsible dog owners’ behaviour we will never be able to advertise that the streets and pavements in the area are safe to walk on.
