Kasabian made up for their Brits snub by picking up three gongs at the NME Awards.

The rockers, who did not get a single Brits nomination, were hailed as the best British band at the event at Brixton Academy in London.

They also carried off best album for 48:13 and won the best quote award for guitarist Serge Pizzorno’s reaction to headlining Glastonbury when he said: “Five records, 10 years. We’ve earned our shot.”

Singer-songwriter Jamie T also picked up a hat-trick of gongs, winning best track and best video for Zombie and music moment of the year for his comeback gigs which saw him return after almost four years of silence.

Other winners included Royal Blood, who were named best new band and best live band and performed their track Figure It Out on the night.

NME editor Mike Williams said: “It’s been an astounding year of comebacks and triumphs for Kasabian and Jamie T and their awards prove it. The fans have spoken and, along with newcomers Royal Blood, they have been undoubtedly anointed as the biggest acts in the country right now.

“Most excitingly, none of the trio looks set on slowing down any time soon.”

The event, formally known as the NME Awards 2015 with Austin, Texas, were hosted by Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, and also featured a greatest-hits set by Suede after they picked up their Godlike Genius Award.

Charli XCX picked up the dancefloor filler award for her collaboration with Iggy Azalea on Fancy, before performing her current single Doing It, and Glastonbury was named best festival.

Jake Bugg fought off competition from Jack White, Jamie T, La Roux, Lana Del Rey and St Vincent to be crowned best solo artiste and Foo Fighters were named best international band by Chrissie Hynde.

Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page picked up the special Rock ’n’ Roll Soul Award, Game of Thrones was named best TV show and Arctic Monkeys Alex Turner was hero of the year.
