Mary Anna Pace spoke in a letter of the ‘Immodestly dressed singer’, but can I ask her how the singer was dressed? Sleeveless, in short sleeves, with bare back or strapless perhaps?

I remember the days as a child when we used to go to confession in short sleeves and the priest would tell our mothers to give us a long-sleeved shirt. The girls were not allowed in without a veil.

But those days are over although some parish priests still insist that all women should wear a veil.

I’ve also seen brides being “immodestly dressed” during the nuptial Mass, although some priests insist that a bolero should be worn.

Maybe not being able to attend the concert was a blessing in disguise, because I would have seen one of the greatest Maltese sopranos “immodestly dressed”.
