The news about extending the bus terminus to the far end of St James Ditch requires careful rethinking. This would mean more than a kilometre of walk, come rain or shine, from City Gate to the farthest bus. Is this appropriate for aged persons, the infirm and women with small children?

There are other possible solutions which must ensure that all buses would be within reasonable distance. If ‘the powers that be’ do not want to encumber City Gate, a shallow ditch could be excavated alongside that bastion wall.

This would not need to be more than two metres deep, just enough to leave a reasonable view of the bastions and Parliament in the background.

I am sure that there are a number of other solutions.

By the way, the lottery drum is no longer visible in the montage. Is it going to be dismantled, in which case is it to be discarded or moved elsewhere?

A lot of fuss has been made about the monti hawkers. What about a little bit of fuss on the poor commuter? Can the citizens and consumer societies give their frank and unbiased views?

Finally, is there going to be some type of covered and protected walkway all along the ditch?
