Having just waited over 10 minutes at the Gżira bus stop before a bus came along – and that was the X2 to the airport – and a further two or three minutes for a bus to Valletta, I realised that a bus lane along that stretch of road is completely unnecessary.

Compare that to the bus lane recently opened along the seafront leading to Msida from Valletta, in which lane there is a bus every minute or two.

The Msida bus lane is very effective and fears about safety have, I think, been allayed. The Gżira bus lane, on the other hand, will remain empty for minutes at a time while the other lane will be even more congested that it is already now.
