During the 2015 January transfer window, £130 million were spent on new signings in the Premier League – the same figure forked out by English top-flight clubs in 2014.
Chelsea and Manchester City were involved in the most expensive deals as Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado joined the Stamford Bridge club from Fiorentina and City signed Ivory Coast forward Wilfried Bony from Swansea.
The likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United were inactive during the winter window.
Manchester United sprang a surprise when they signed defender Andy Kellett on loan from Bolton Wanderers.
Crystal Palace were the busiest top-flight club on deadline day, signing four players including Wilfried Zaha, from United.
The total of £130 million was well short of the record £225m spent in 2011.
Other noteworthy football items for January:
• West Brom appoint Tony Pulis as manager.
• Steve Gerrard is to leave Liverpool for LA Galaxy in the United States at the end of this season.
• Championship side Norwich dismiss Neil Adams, and confirm Alex Neil, the former Hamilton coach.
• Yaya Toure, of Manchester City, becomes the first player to win the African footballer of the year award for the fourth season running.
• Manchester United have the highest wage bill in the Premier League, paying out a total of £214.8 million on salaries in the 2013-14 season.
• Gareth Southgate signs a new deal with the English FA as Under-21 coach.
• Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini and Queens Park Rangers’ Charlie Austin are named manager and player of the month, respectively.
• Deloitte’s ‘money league’ denotes that Real Madrid sit on top of the pile − yet 14 Premier League clubs make this year’s top 30. With the increase in the income from television rights, the number of English clubs in the top part of the list can rise further.
• Martin Canning takes over as player/manager of Hamilton.
• FA Cup fourth round shocks: Blackburn-Stoke 4-1, Chelsea-Bradford 2-4, Manchester City-Middlesbrough 0-2.
• Newcastle confirm that John Carver has been appointed head coach for the rest of the season.
• Chelsea (2-1 on aggregate) and Tottenham (3-2 over two legs) reach the League Cup final at the expense of Liverpool and Sheffield United, respectively.
• Dundee United topple Aberdeen 2-1 and Celtic defeat rivals Rangers 2-0, both ties at Hampden Park, to reach the final of the League Cup.
