Rugby Union: Scotland lock forward Richie Gray has been ruled out of the rest of the Six Nations due to an arm injury, the Scottish Rugby Football Union said. Gray, who partners his brother Jonny in the second row, sustained tendon damage during Sunday’s 26-23 defeat by Wales at Murrayfield and is expected to be out of action for around three months. Glasgow Warriors lock Tim Swinson has been called into the Scottish squad for the rest of the tournament.

Cricket: New Zealand almost wasted a superb bowling effort to bumble their way to a three-wicket victory over Scotland in their cricket World Cup Pool A match in Dunedin yesterday. The co-hosts finished on 146 for seven, although they made it harder for themselves than they should have after bowling Scotland out for 142. Scotland's opening bowler Iain Wardlaw took three for 57 in 9.5 overs to give New Zealand some nervous moments in their run chase. Daniel Vettori (eight not out) and Adam Milne (one), however, saw them home in the 25th over at University Oval.

Golf: Former Open champion Darren Clarke remains a strong favourite to be named European Ryder Cup captain for 2016 today. Clarke, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Bjorn are the contenders to succeed Paul McGinley at Hazeltine in September next year, when Europe will be looking to maintain their recent dominance with a seventh win in the last eight contests. McGinley is part of the five-man selection panel who will each have a vote when they meet at European Tour headquarters in Wentworth.
