Enemalta workers should be given assurances by the Prime Minister that they would retain all their take home pay, shadow ministers for employment and energy, Therese Commodini Cachia and Marthese Portelli, respectively, said today.
Addressing a news conference, they said Enemalta workers were currently going through a very difficult time as they were are facing uncertainty due to the instability surrounding their employment.
Many, they said, did not know what their working conditions would be in the coming weeks and months.
The two shadow ministers said that in the past weeks they were approached by a number of workers from various sections who said they had been approached by GWU shop stewards and shown a list of jobs within other government departments.
This list, they said, was not public but was being kept by the GWU representative, who was speaking to employees unsystematically.
Dr Commodini Cachia insisted that such a list should be public to all workers at the same time.
Dr Portelli recalled that in the election campaign, Joseph Muscat, then Opposition leader, had promised Enemalta workers during a meeting at the Rialto that their job would not be jeopardised. This was not happening and a number of workers were claiming that their take home pay was at stake.
Enemalta workers, they said, were feeling betrayed by the PM.
