The electricity power lines where Mensija Road intersects with Santa Margarita Street, at San Ġwann, were dislodged when construction work on the corner building was underway, about two years ago.

Work was completed in about a year but the cables are still dangling at shoulder level.

Surely, these are a mortal danger if still ‘live’.

If ‘dead’, and that is what they should be, then they must be removed forthwith.

For workmen, equipped with a ladder or a cherry picker, this would be a 15-minute job.

At the very same junction, a convex mirror, installed after a traffic accident in which a housewife lost her life, is also completely useless, propped against the wall at an old angle.

Heavy traffic, including buses, goes through at all times of the day. Several retail outlets and services shops within 50 metres of this intersection draw a considerable amount of pedestrians. The danger is imminent and very real.

This is not a third world country. Will action only be taken when an accident happens?

Who is responsible? The local council? The aesthetics board? The traffic authority? Wardens? The planning authority?

So many regulators.

So little action.
