‘It’s now or leather’ for Elvis fans who want to get a look at one of the king’s most famous outfits.

The black leather suit the singer wore for his 1968 TV comeback special has gone on show at an exhibition about his life.

The US TV show marked Elvis’s return to the charts with Suspicious Minds and brought his music to a whole new generation of fans – legend has it that The Doors frontman Jim Morrison was so impressed with the suit he had one made for himself.

It is currently on show at Elvis at The O2: The Exhibition of His Life at the venue in Greenwich, southeast London, and will be there for two months before being taking back to his old home Graceland.

Exhibition curator and Graceland director of archives Angie Marchese said: “The reaction to the exhibition has been amazing and now we’re thrilled to be bringing over the iconic black leather suit that Elvis wore in the 1968 comeback special.

“The suit is so significant because the 1968 comeback special signified the rebirth of Elvis’s career and helped to cement his place as the King of Rock and Roll. The black leather suit will take pride of place alongside all of the other iconic items which are already on display. No exhibition mounted previously has ever been so revealing of the man and the star. For people who can’t get to Graceland, Graceland is coming to them.”

The exhibition, which runs until the end of August, includes cars, costumes, guitars and gold discs from Presley’s personal collection.
