Those who are artistically inclined may have heard of the 3Doodler. Released last year, the Doodler allowed you to create 3D models just by drawing them. It was quite a hit with artists. And that’s why we’re pleased to see the 3Doodler 2.0, which is a lighter, quieter and easier to use device.

The 3Doodler 2.0 uses molten plastic to render your sketch in 3D. The original pen was a little chunky and tricky to use and it was also very difficult to create anything remotely artistic without a lot of practice. The promise of a user-friendlier version is certainly a welcome one.

The pen itself is about the size of a marker pen. It has a couple of buttons and weighs around 50gr. You can tweak the speed at which plastic is fed through the pen and double click for a constant flow. It looks and feels better than its predecessor, which is a definite bonus. Other improvements include more efficient battery use, better cooling and improved heating for the plastic.

The 3Doodler 2.0 was shown at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, US and production models will be available once the Kickstarter campaign is over. The goal of €26,000 to complete development was met within 16 minutes and now stands over 10 times that amount.

Once the pen is in production, various accessories will join it including a control pedal, stand, changeable nozzles for different effects and a smoothing tool. 3Doodler 2.0 is currently still on Kickstarter so get there quickly if you want one.
