Re-enacting group Battlefront recently met other World War II re-enactment enthusiasts and historical associations in Italy.

Members of the Battlefront Living History Group Malta participated in an event in Monte Soratte, 50 kilometres north of Rome.

Thanks to the hospitality of the Historica XX Secolo association, Battlefront members could explore parts of the city built underneath Monte Soratte, originally used as an ammunitions factory and shelter, but which later served as headquarters for the German supreme command of the south.

The theme was ‘Oberkommando Kesselring’, where re-enactors brought to life the bunkers at the time of the takeover by Field Marshall Albert Kesselring, commander in chief of Mediterranean theatre of war and defence of Italy at Monte Soratte.

Battlefront members attended this historical reconstruction, along with other re-enactors, while original vehicles and ordnance added to the event’s historical context.

World War II re-enactment is a pastime that has also developed extensively in Malta.

Members are avidly in constant research not only to present authentic scenarios to the public but also to encourage others to form part of the re-enacting group.

Re-enacting requires discipline and an initial investment, but is great fun. It is, therefore, a worthy consideration for history lovers, who are always welcome, Battlefront said.
