Lucilla GaleazziLucilla Galeazzi

The Manoel Theatre will present an evening of music from Naples with the renowned Italian folk singer Lucilla Galeazzi.

The vastness of the Neapolitan repertoire extends over five centuries: its great variety of forms from instrumental music to vocal music, from serious opera to opera buffa, from villanelle to sacred music.

The important contribution by composers from around the world make the city of Naples ‘a temporal continent’, where one finds Roland de Lassus and Adrian Willaert with their Neapoletan villanelle, La Tarantella of Gaspar Sanz, Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with the music of Pergolesi, the Neapolitan Dance of Tchaïkovsky, Auber with his Muette de Portici, Rimsky-Korsakov, Strauss and Schoenberg struggling with Funiculì Funiculà, Liszt in his travels between Naples and Venice, Poulenc, Debussy, Thalberg, Cottrau and Gaetano Donizetti.

The idea of the concert is to rebuild a kind of musical geography of this Dionysian city through the music of foreign composers who were able to look at Naples’ traditions with interest and geniality.

Galeazzi is a singer who could approach such a project. Since her debut with the great master Giovanna Marini she has developed a sensitivity as well as a repertoire that makes her the most valued singer on the international musical scene in this genre.

The concert takes place on Wednesday at 8pm at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta. Tickets are available online or by calling on 2124 6389.
