The government’s stated goal, repeated ad nauseam for catchy headlines, is to reach the 10 per cent target in renewable energy by 2020. However, its actions are the opposite as evidenced by Enemalta’s and the Malta Resources Authority’s policies.

If one wants to upgrade one’s (originally subsidised) solar panel system at one’s own expense, to make it more efficient, one will find out it is not possible.

If one wants to install a new system on a saturated distribution line, one is obliged to fork out the expense, running into thousands of euros, of the line upgrade work that is necessary to absorb the electricity generation.

For us plebs, nice-sounding headlines without any backing action are meaningless.
