Malta registered the highest economic growth in the EU between July and September last year according to revised Eurostat statistics published today, the government said.

It noted that following the revision, Malta’s estimated economic growth in the third quarter last year was raised from 3.8 to four per cent.

The government noted that the third quarter was the most active in Malta because of the number of tourists visiting in the summer months.

It said that in spite of these results, the Opposition continued to insist that the country was going through problems which could lead the government to request a financial bailout.

The government said it believed in Malta’s economic potential and would be taking measures to further enhance economic growth and create new opportunities for Maltese families and businesses.
