CARACHI. On February 9, at St Vincent de Paul Residence, EVELYN, née Attard of Balzan, aged 86, went to meet the Risen Lord and her beloved husband Paul, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her sad loss her daughter MaryRose and her husband Saviour Gauci, her son Alexander and his wife Rita, her grandchildren Claire and her partner Nedim, Pierre-Paul and his wife Pamela, Alex-William, Hubert-John and Karl-Matthew, her great-grandchildren Krista, Julian and Megan, her sister Katie, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul Residence tomorrow at 1.45pm for St Andrew parish church, Luqa, where a Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2pm followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

CIAPPARA. On February 12, ROSE aged 91, widow of Francis, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved children, Manuel and Tanya, Maria, Josette, Anna and Joseph, her grandchildren Sarah, Roberto, Sandro, Nadia, Marta, Sonia and Roberta, their spouses, great-grandchildren Adrian and Nathan, her sisters Doddy and Amy, in-laws, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends.
Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated on Saturday at 8.30am at Annunciation church (San Duminku) Vittoriosa, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. Special thanks go to the staff and friends at Charian Residence, Marsascala.

DARMENIA. On February 11, at her home in St Julian’s, Aunty ROSE, aged 91, widow of the late Albert Darmenia, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her immense loss her niece Louiana Busuttil and her daughters Audrey and Sarah, her nephew Jean Paul Busuttil, his wife Mirjam and their daughter Sophie Ann, and Therese, widow of her nephew Louis Busuttil. She will also be sadly missed by her numerous nieces and nephews in Malta, Canada and Australia. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow, Friday, for Ibraġ parish church were Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 9am followed by inter­ment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

GUELFI. On February 7, in Syracuse, Sicily, YVONNE, née Mutton, aged 70, passed away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Fondly missed by her husband Giorgio, her daughter Tiziana and her husband Marco, her son Fabrizio and his wife Valentina, her brother, sisters and their respective spouses, Roland and Kathleen, Melita and John Zammit, Dorothy and John Mallia, her brother-in-law Ermanno and his wife Cleria, uncles, aunties, nephews and nieces, amongst them the Rev. Fr Michael Zammit, cousins, other relatives and friends, both in Malta and in Syracuse. The funeral was held in Syracuse yesterday. A Mass for the repose of her soul will be celebrated at the chapel of the Ursuline Sisters Creche, Sliema, on Saturday at 9.15am.

SPITERI. On February 11, at Mater Dei Hospital, NAZZARENO, of Qormi, aged 80, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Pauline, his children Ġeorgina and her husband Carmel Buhagiar, Yvonne and her husband Anthony Buttigieg, Josianne and her husband Alexander Borg, his grandchildren Flavia, Leonthine, JeanPaul, Jeremy and Matthew, great-grandchildren Phoebe, Kurt, Zach and Neill, his brothers and sisters-in-laws, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.15 pm for St George parish church, Qormi, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3pm, followed by interment at the Resurrection Cemetery, Qormi. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated.

Archaeology in Malta

The world-renowned archaeologist, David H. Trump will elaborate on ‘1954-2014 Sixty Years of Archaeology in Malta’ at Din l-Art Ħelwa, 133, Melita Street, Valletta, today at 6.30 pm .

The Personal Experiences of Dr Trump's talk will be accompanied by a photographic presentation by Daniel Cilia. Entrance is free but donations to Din l-Art Ħelwa will be appreciated.

Dr Trump’s career has spanned 60 years of excavating in Malta, including the sites of Ġgantija, Skorba and the Xagħra Circle. He held the post of Curator of Archaeology at the National Museum of Malta from 1958-1963.

In December 2004, Dr Trump was appointed Honorary Officer of The National Order of Merit of the Republic of Malta.
