Qormi Poiatti 6
Rabat 1

Qormi were in a class of their own on Sunday as they beat Rabat 6-1 and now they’re leading the standings along with Sliema Hotsticks who conceded their first defeat of the season in the other National League match.

Qormi were awarded a penalty corner in the first minute and John Williams picked up the rebound and slotted home to open the scoresheet.

Qormi were then awarded a penalty stroke and Juan Sarcia made no mistake from the spot.

A minute later Sarcia grabbed his second, and Qormi’s third, netting from the top of the D after a solo run from midfield and on 32 minutes Sarcia notched his hat-trick to send his team 4-0 up at half-time.

Five minutes into the second half, Isaac Mansueto added to Qormi’s tally and Sarcia then scored his fourth goal from a penalty corner.

Kevin Micallef pulled one back for Rabat on 67 minutes but it was too late to have any influence on the outcome of the game.

Umpires: Manuel Imbroll, Tim Jacobs.

Sliema Hotsticks 0
Young Stars Remax 2

This was one of the best games so far this season, the two sides fighting tooth and nail with neither managing to gain the upperhand in the first half.

Young Stars should have taken the lead on 41 minutes but Clive Williams skied the ball over the bar from close range.

The Stars did not avail themselves of three penalty corners in the next 12 minutes but on the fourth attempt Ivan Magro Dingli pounced on a rebound and netted the opener.

Young Stars increased their lead five minutes later when Jamie Mifsud hit home from the top of the D.

From then on Young Stars ran down the clock to register a 2-0 victory despite Hotsticks’ efforts in the final phase of the game.

Umpires: Luke Busuttil Leaver, Paul Brincat.
