Leaders Caffe Moak Luxol extended their unbeaten run in the women’s National League after a 70-44 win over second-placed PAVI Depiro.

Perhaps, Depiro were more focused on today’s KO final against Honey Athleta but they had captain Sam Brincat in the team and more was expected of them against the champions.

Luxol looked the sharper team in the opening quarter and they carried their good moment into the next 10-minute session. With Steffi DeMartino in fine form, Luxol went on to change ends 37-22 ahead.

Depiro were hardly in the match except for a brief moment during which they potted nine consecutive points without a Luxol reply.

However, Luxol still started the last quarter 50-36 ahead and preserved their advantage for a deserved victory, their eighth in the competition this season.

In another match from the championship, bottom-placed Phoenix were no match for Hibs who won the encounter 75-46.

Victory was in Hibs’ bags practically at half-time, as they led 40-16.

Phoenix improved after the interval but Hibs still ran out easy winners.

Standings: Luxol 16 (8-0); Depiro 13 (5-3); Athleta 12 (4-4); Hibernians 11 (3-5); Phoenix 8 (0-8).

Top scorers: A. Simmons (Athleta) 199, S. Evans (Depiro) 160, L. Alston (Luxol ) 148.

Playing today: St James Hospital KO final 14.45 Depiro vs Athleta.
