A man who admitted to harassing and threatening his wife while they were going through separation proceedings was given a suspended jail term.

The 34-year-old Libyan man was given a six-month jail term suspended for two years and was fined €100.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea noted that the man had cooperated with the police.

“I know this is a difficult time but we don’t solve problems by threatening and harassing,” the magistrate told him as she bound him not to harass his Maltese wife for a year against a €100 fine in default.

Names are not being published to protect the woman’s identity. Police Inspector Nicholas Vella prosecuted.
