A man was given a six-month jail term suspended for two years and fined €100 today after he admitted to harassing and threatening his wife.

The 34-year-old Libyan man also admitted to causing his Maltese wife to fear him.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea noted that the couple were going through separation proceedings.

"I know this is a difficult time but we don't solve problems by threatening and harassing," she said.

Police Inspector Nicholas Vella prosecuted.
