The hired second-hand buses imported by Malta were certified by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) in the UK just a few days before they were shipped and registered in Malta last week, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said in Parliament today.

He was answering a question by opposition MP Marthese Portelli.

He added that no modifications had been made to any of the buses before they were shipped.

Mr Mizzi said that equipment as CCTV cameras, ticketing machines and tracking devices were being installed in Malta so that the buses would conform to the requisites of the Transport Authority.

To another question by Dr Portelli, Mr Mizzi said the number of day tickets sold throughout last year was 10,175,554.
