No air quality tests were held at the hypogeum in the past 18 months, but one will be held later this year, Justice and Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said in reply to parliamentary questions by Joe Cassar (PN) this evening.

Dr Cassar asked what measures were taken over the past 18 months to ensure that staff and visitors were not exposed to any germs found in closed places lacking air circulation.

Dr Bonnici said tests had been made to establish the potential danger from germs and it was decided that some areas needed to be washed with certain chemicals as a precaution. This is being done regularly.

No air quality tests were made over the past 18 months but one is planned for this year. The air handling units will also be replaced this year as part of extensive restructuring co-financed by funds from  EEA (Norway).
