In Milan we are repeatedly reminded that there are less than 100 days left for the opening of Expo Milano 2015.

Workmen are on the site in 24-hour shifts, and as usual, I am confident that the ‘Italian miracle’ will happen. Everything will be just fine and the ‘Made in Italy’ brand will excel in food, fashion, cars and design.

The Italian government is also preparing an exhibition of famous Italian works of art, and 1,300 cultural events will be held. La Scala has agreed to host a great concert for the opening on May 1.

According to the organiser, Giuseppe Sala: “Eight million tickets have been sold, five million outside Italy, and one million alone in China”. The latter is building a gigantic pavilion and taxi drivers are even learning basic Chinese.

I am writing once more to enquire what Malta will be doing. I do not expect great things, but there is certainly space for our island. I am sure that with the money allocated by the government we cannot perform miracles but industry and businesses may help raise some more funds.

My final recommendation is to think of accommodation and entrance tickets now, as millions are expected to attend. This is a global event not to be missed.
