Sustainable energy is the theme of the annual conference of the University’s Institute for Sustainable Energy to be held on March 17.

The quest for energy, clean water and decent housing could lead to power struggles and conflicts, because these elements are the most essential measures of wealth, well-being and development. Without these three elements, society risks regressing by centuries in a matter of days.

On the other hand, energy efficiency and renewable energies could play an important role in fostering collaboration and sharing of resources, leading to peace and stability.

These elements go even further by mitigating climate change and bringing about a cleaner environment, which the United Nations hopes to realise in a legally binding commitment, following last September’s climate summit.

Bringing change is often believed to lie in the hands of politicians, but this cannot be realised without the active contribution of researchers, engineers, scientists and architects, who provide practical solutions to today’s challenges, through innovation and new technologies.

Speakers will include a keynote speaker from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy.

The conference aims at bringing the latest developments in the area of energy to the attention of all stakeholders. The areas of interest cover many topics, including buildings, energy to waste, energy efficiency, renewable energy applications and social energy behaviour.

The conference is open to all interested parties, including professionals, researchers, Master and Ph.D. students and industry specialists.

Discounted registration fees apply until February 17.

Registration includes the conference’s proceedings on CD, lunch and coffee breaks.
