The Union Haddiema Maghqudin said this morning it was considering all action it could take according to law to safeguard the interests of Enemalta employees and their families and appealed to the Prime Minister to keep its pre-election promise that the conditions of Enemalta workers would not be touched.

In a statement this morning, the union said it yesterday had an urgent meeting with the company’s management as a number of its members received a transfer letter without consultation and against the collective agreement.

The union said the management insisted the workers should be transferred on Monday.

The UHM said this was not acceptable as workers should be given reasonable time during which to evaluate how transfers would affect them. It made it clear to the management that unless this time was given, it would issue directives to its members not to accept these transfers. An agreement was then reached for the transfers not to be issued until the union members discussed their working conditions with their representatives.

The union also objected to the deceitful language used by the corporation management in its transfer letters to the workers.

The letters stated that the Engineering Resources Ltd had accepted their request to be seconded to another department.

The union said none of its members had requested transfers or to be seconded so the management was using such words to give the impression that the transfer was requested by the workers.
