A couple of weeks ago, leaving Malta for Rome on my way to Brazil, I left my mobile phone at the airport, presumably in the security area.

The authorities, without my asking, traced my relatives in Malta and informed them about my phone.

When my nephew, sick and in his 60s, found time to go and pick it up, he was charged €8! When I recounted this to a Brazilian friend, he described it as “daylight robbery”.
