Silverstone’s attempt to turn back the clock resulted in the circuit selling their allocation of 1,000 cut-price £99 tickets for the British Grand Prix in just 22 minutes.

The response was so overwhelming new Silverstone managing director Patrick Allen took the decision to keep the sale going through to 5pm, resulting in a total of 5,511 race-day general admission tickets being sold on Wednesday.

It was the first time since 2008 the Northamptonshire venue had sold tickets so cheaply, with the management team installed earlier this month determined to make an instant impact.

Allen has also introduced a new kids policy whereby children aged 10 and under can attend the whole weekend on July 4-5 free of charge on a general admission ticket, while children aged 11-15 can attend race day for only £49.
