George Portanier has been appointed the chief executive officer of the Malta Institute of Taxation (MIT).

Portanier is a former director and CEO of Portanier Brothers Ltd. He also serves on the boards of other private companies as well as on the board of Bank of Valletta plc.

MIT, constituted 20 years ago, promotes education in all matters relating to taxation, the creation of an informed public opinion on the subject and the development of the techniquesof taxation.

The institute also makes submissions to government on matters of national importance.

It also publishes on a regular basis and offers a course leading to a diploma in taxation.
