The Malta Resources Authority should pronounce itself on whether international fuel prices were being fairly reflected in the local market, the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association said this morning.

The association said it requested a meeting with the MRA to discuss the matter and called on the government to update the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development on the energy strategy being rolled out to ensure that the maximum benefit in energy savings due to the lowering of international prices would be passed on to consumers.

“The lowering of the fuel and utility costs to the individual user will give a big boost especially to the lower income earner which will reflect itself in increased economic activity. The lowering of the costs to the commercial sector will render it more competitive internationally and stimulate growth of the economy” MHRA president Tony Zahra said.
