Opposition leader Simon Busuttil this morning visited Maltco Lotteries in Iklin.

He said that while betting could have negative connotations for some, the regulations drawn up and legal structure built transformed the sector into a strong economic activity.

The market was regulated and protected to the advantage of operators and consumers.

Dr Busuttil said the government should continue to defend the sector, especially in view of the fact that many EU member states were putting pressure for more stringent regulations.
