I would like to refer to the article entitled ‘New bus bosses hit first bump’ (January 22).

Transport Malta expresses its disappointment at comments that were attributed to a spokesperson of Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin regarding a meeting which was held between the General Workers’ Union, Transport Malta and Autobuses de Leon.

Transport Malta wishes to clarify that the meeting was facilitated by the chairman following a request by the GWU, which, at present, remains the sole recognised union within Malta Public Transport Limited.

The new owners were duly informed of the employees’ representation status during the due diligence exercise.

The meeting was held to introduce the new operators to a committee from the recognised union. UĦM knows all too well that this is normal practice and, consequently, any comments or implications stating otherwise are totally incorrect and unwarranted.
