The Malta Weightlifting Association (MWA) have just held an annual general meeting during which Jesmond Caruana was again confirmed as president of the organisation with no other contestants for his position.

The other members in the executive committee will be J. Vassallo general secretary, R. Borg treasurer and M. Pisani and R. Pulis members.

During the meeting, reports highlighting the achievements from the past year were presented and discussed. These included mainly the national team and individual lifters.

It was revealed that in 2014 alone, 21 lifters and 15 officials represented the country on the international scene with participations at the Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympic Games, World and European Championships and a series of regional competitions including the Medi-terranean Cup and European Small Nations tournament.

To keep the national team athletes in top shape, the association also held four international training camps last year.

“These opportunities contributed to the marked progress of our athletes’ performances,” the MWA said in a statement.

“In fact, 121 new records were established and medals were also won in top level competitions.

“Also worthy of mention is that new training centres have been set up in different locations. Here, we want to thank our sponsors and all those who support us.”

Meanwhile, a thorough plan of action for 2015 was devised with the closest event on the calendar being the Mediterranean Cup and an international seminar in Malta between March 19 and 22.
