Police officer requests for reduced hours are being denied because of the considerable number of such requests, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said this evening.

Replying to a Parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi, the minister said the requests had been causing problems in the administration and distribution of police work.

This, he said, necessitated a revision of the system for existing cases with every case being considered on merit according to the needs of the force.
