Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said yesterday that he has had a number of informal talks with the Malta Police Association and has also met the Ombudsman.

The Malta Police Association is currently in dispute with the government over fixed term contracts given to top police officers and has presented a judicial protest.

The Ombudsman and the Home Affairs Ministry have also been engaged in a dispute over whether the Ombudsman has the authority to consider complaints from AFM officers over promotions.

Answering a question in parliament by opposition MP Jason Azzopardi, Mr Abela said more meetings were planned with the Ombudsman in the near future.
