A 54-year old man was charged today with defiling a 17-year-old from Senegal and holding the young man against his will in Marsa yesterday.

The man, whose name can not be published by court order, pleaded not guilty to all the charges that included holding the teen against his will, slightly injuring him, defiling him, violent indecent assault and causing him to fear him.

The arraignment, presided over by Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit, took place behind closed doors due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Police Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted while lawyers Jason Azzopardi and Kris Busietta represented the accused.

The man was granted bail against a €300 deposit and a personal guarantee of €20,000.
