I refer to the item ‘Fountain restored’ (Gozo page, The Sunday Times of Malta, January 18).

The Wirt Għawdex NGO is to be commended for the sterling work it is undertaking in the restoration of various historic buildings and monuments in Gozo. With specific reference to the fountain project in Victoria dating to 1881, it would be interesting to note that the design of the fountain was by the prolific Maltese architect Emanuele Luigi Galizia (1830-1906).

Detailed drawings of the fountain, endorsed and signed by Galizia, in his capacity as the Superintendent of Public Works, include a beautiful ink and wash drawing of the ornate details of the fountain. The drawings are to be found in the drawings collection of the Chief Draughstman’s office at the Works Department, Floriana.

I take this opportunity to suggest the placement of an unobtrusive information panel with historical details and illustrations to further enrich the public’s enjoyment of this monument.
