A record 44 sixth form students took part in this year’s edition of the English-Speaking Union’s public speaking academy, double the number of participants in 2014. It was also the first time that there were participants from all local sixth forms .
During the academy, held at the Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry in Valletta, participants were shown how to harmonise their body language with their verbal communication, the value of persuasive speech, effective ways of strengthening their voice and the importance of always being themselves.
The event was led by ESU director of education Pia Zammit and included presentations by guest speakers Clare Vassallo, Malcolm Galea and Philip Leone-Ganado.
The ESU will hold a public speaking competition on February 26. The winner will take part in an ESU international public speaking competition in London in May.
