Children at Newark School, Sliema, designed and made jewellery inspired by nature during a project funded by the Tourism Ministry’s Kreattiv programme.

They collected items such as leaves, shells and branches during a nature walk and drew sketches of their ideas after discussing what they came across with creative experts during their art lessons.

The school organised trips to a local ceramics firm where the students were assisted to design ceramic pendants, make jewellery pieces from clay and assemble them into jewellery items. These are being sold and the proceeds will go to charity.

School principal Rosanne Galea said the project helped bring out the children’s artistic qualities.
