Students forming 12 teams from University, Mcast and St Martin’s Institute have enrolled in Hyundai’s Brilliant Young Entrepreneurs, a competition run by Hyundai Europe in partnership with Junior Achievement Young Enterprise Malta (JA-YE). The competition will finally see 19 start-ups from 17 participating countries in Europe competing for Hyundai’s prize.
The competition was open to all tertiary and Accountancy, together with Degree Plus.
The competing student teams will be creating an innovative, marketable idea that can become a productive venture. Hyundai Europe will be offering €15,000 to ‘fuel inject’ the lucky winners of the Bye Award.s will give a kickstart to the lucky company and help establish operations.
In Malta, Hyundai is supporting this competition through a number of mentoring events with the involvement of key management from Hyundai Malta, who have addressed the participating students during the first event held recently.
The teams participating in this competition are preparing themselves to face their first judging panel on Saturday.
“In a current scenario of shifting economies and employment migration, entrepreneurial skills are rated significantly high where career moves are concerned. Instilling entrepreneurial skills not only adds value to students’ academic knowledge but it also equips them for future prospects. This is why learning by doing is the principle students should follow to develop their careers. This is the ultimate mission of the Junior Achievement (Young Enterprise) Malta Foundation, which has introduced a new start-up programme to promote entrepreneurship education among tertiary students,” said Lorna Farrugia from the foundation.
“These young students have an entrepreneur streak in them and we want to encourage them to embark on an exciting journey to turn their dream into reality. We are delighted to be adding a local flavour to this European competition and are proud to be collaborating with the foundation on this new initiative,” said Francesca Mamo from Hyundai Malta.
